Regional Championships 2027

This page provides information about the regional championships in cloud computing for the year 2027. Apprentices from various vocational schools across Switzerland will have the opportunity to participate in this exciting competition, showcasing their skills and knowledge in cloud computing using AWS services.

The competition takes place between 13 and 20 March 2027. Further information, such as venues, exact dates, and signup, is provided by our parent organization ICT-Berufsbildung Schweiz on their official page: https://www.ict-berufsbildung.ch/skills/

This page focuses on the Skills53-specific details of the competition, such as the rules, the AI policy, the AWS services, and how to prepare.

The use of AI is strictly forbidden. This applies to all AI tools, including chatbots, coding assistants and AI features in other tools. 2026 was a one-time exception and does not apply anymore. Any violation leads to disqualification. Read the AI policy before the competition.

Structure and Rules

  • 3 hours to complete as many tasks as possible, mostly independent of each other, some interconnected.
  • automated platform providing you with a temporary AWS account, task instructions, and scoring
  • real-time scoring of your progress, giving you feedback on your performance in minutes.
  • open internet: use any online resources, such as documentation and tutorials
  • no AI tools: the use of AI, such as chatbots or coding assistants, is strictly forbidden, see the AI policy below
  • no communication or collaboration with other participants or external individuals
  • confidentiality is required, you must not disclose any materials / tasks / information at any time

AI Policy

AI tools are forbidden for the entire duration of the competition. 2026 was the only edition in which AI was allowed, and this exception has ended. The ban covers, but is not limited to:

  • chatbots such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot
  • coding assistants and AI features built into editors, browsers or other tools
  • AI-based features within AWS, such as Amazon Q
  • AI agents or automation acting on your behalf, such as connecting an AI tool to your AWS account, the AWS CLI or the competition platform (e.g. via MCP servers, browser agents or agentic coding tools)

Other online resources, such as the AWS documentation, tutorials or search engines, remain allowed. AI-generated answers within them, such as AI summaries in search results, must not be used.

The use of AI is monitored. Competition hosts on site actively supervise for AI usage, and additional technical measures are in place to detect it. Any violation leads to disqualification, regardless of how much AI was used.

Every stage after the regionals, from the national championships at SwissSkills to the assessment for WorldSkills and WorldSkills itself, takes place in person and under strict supervision, without any access to AI. Qualifying with AI assistance will become apparent at the latest at these stages. Prepare and compete with your own skills.

How it Works

On the day of the competition, you will receive credentials to log into the competition platform. The platform will provide access to your tasks, a temporary AWS account, and your current scores. You can then start working on the tasks in your own environment, switching between tasks as needed. Your typical workflow will look like this:

  1. Decide which task you will tackle next, having access to the full description of all tasks at any time.
  2. Read the task description carefully and understand the requirements.
  3. Implement the solution using the provided AWS account and any online resources you find helpful.
  4. Check the platform real-time scoring for completion and correctness of your solution. (updates after a few minutes)

You do not have to remember any of these instructions; they will be provided to you again on the day of the competition, with a specific website explaining the process in detail.

AWS Services

The list of AWS services is not yet available. A draft will be published together with the start of training in early to mid December 2026, followed by the final list by 22 February 2027 at the latest.

Training Materials

Training starts in early to mid December 2026. We have to manually grant all requests, so a signup may take a few days to be processed.

You can find information about the available materials for training by visiting the respective Training section of this website. It outlines the various paths that you have at your disposal to prepare for the upcoming regional championship in 2027.

To receive access to these training materials, request it on our competition platform:

  1. Create an account on https://dash.skills53.ch, either with email and password or by signing in with Google or Microsoft.
  2. Confirm your email address using the link we send you. Access can only be requested with a confirmed address; if the email does not arrive, you can resend it from the email page of your account.
  3. Complete your profile with your name, date of birth, and your vocational school and/or employer (at least one, both if you have both).
  4. Open https://dash.skills53.ch/join/ and press “Request access” next to the training event. No invite code is needed. The training event only opens in early to mid December 2026, so check back then; you can complete steps 1 to 3 beforehand.

Once your request is approved, you receive an email and can use the practice competition right away. You are also enrolled in both AWS Academy courses and receive two separate invitation emails from AWS Academy.

Participation Requirements

The competition is fully BYOD (Bring Your Own Device). You will need a laptop with the following minimum requirements:

  • Any modern web browser of your choice, such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari.
  • An email address for competition login and communication.
  • Optionally, an SSH client like OpenSSH or PuTTY if you prefer command-line access (not required).

No additional software or virtual machines are necessary since everything runs on AWS.
